BOTOX

  • How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years.  Our board certified dermatologists and providers will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.

Other possible side effects include: dry mouth, discomfort or pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, neck pain, eye problems, double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight and dry eyes and allergic reactions. These are the possible serious side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

DYSPORT

  • How does DYSPORT® work?

Dysport® treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions, which means they can even develop in younger adults. One injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. In other words, no frozen look, just natural-looking results.

  • Will Dysport® make me look like I’ve had work done?

You can control your look instead of your look controlling you. You’ve got better things to do than think about what your frown lines look like. In just one 10- to 20-minute treatment, Dysport may help improve the look of your frown lines between the eyebrows for up to 4 months. The majority of users see improvement in just 2–3 days after treatment. Results of repeat treatments may be comparable to your first use. Another plus? There is minimal downtime after your treatment, which means you can get back to your day faster.

Dysport® Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when someone who is licensed, trained, treats you and who is a medical expert in facial anatomy.  It is important to talk to your doctor about the results you want from treatment.  At Integrated Dermatology, only board certified dermatologists and physician assistants use Dysport® Cosmetics.

  • Does Dysport® treatment hurt?

  • What were common side effects seen in clinical studies?

Do not take Dysport if you: Are allergic to Dysport or any of the ingredients in Dysport. Are allergic to cow's milk protein. Had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product, such as Myobloc® (rimabotulinumtoxinB), Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) or Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA) or have a skin infection at the planned injection site

Dysport may not be right for you if you have had surgical changes to your face, if you have very weak muscles in the treatment area, if your face looks very different from side to side, if the injection site is inflamed, if you have droopy eyelids or sagging eyelid folds, if you have deep facial scars, if you have thick, oily skin and your wrinkles can't be smoothed by spreading them apart.

SCULPTRA AESTHETIC

  • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment?

Here at Integrated Dermatology, only board certified dermatologists and physician assistant perform the Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment.  When it comes to aesthetic treatments, the skill and expertise of the physician and provider who is administering your treatment is paramount.

  • How does Sculptra® Aesthetic work?

Sculptra® is injected below the surface of the skin, within the deep dermis, where strands of collagen support your skin’s structure to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds.

Sculptra® Aesthetic provides a gradual increase in skin thickness by stimulating regrowth of you own soft tissue or collagen. Visible results appear gradually within several treatment sessions. Sculptra® Aesthetic will not correct the underlying cause of the facial fat loss, but will help improve the appearance by increasing skin thickness in the treated area.

Sculptra® Aesthetic works subtly and gradually over time for a more youthful-looking appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, Sculptra® Aesthetic helps stimulate your skin’s own natural collagen production to help restore its inner structure and increase facial volume that has been lost to aging.

Collagen is a key structural component of smooth, healthy-looking skin. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases. In fact, you lose about 1% of collagen per year after the age of 18. This is when you may start to notice the formation of wrinkles.  Sculptra® Aesthetic can help, even if decades of collagen loss have already occurred.

Over time, Sculptra® Aesthetic helps the body reproduce lost collagen. On average, three to six injection sessions are needed over a period of a several months.  Once the series of treatment are completed, results are maintained with one treatment session annually.  The number of injection appointments and the number of injections per appointment vary from person to person, based on age, and depending on how much collagen has been lost.

Contact us schedule a cosmetic consultation for Sculptra® Aesthetic.

  • Where are the typical areas where Sculptra® Aesthetic can help?

    • Hollow cheeks
    • Softening boney cheekbones
    • Nasolabial and melolabial folds (Nose to mouth/mouth to chin)
    • Hollow chin area
    • Defining the jawline
    • Hollow temples
    • Some body sites
  • Why should I choose Sculptra® Aesthetic?

Not all treatments or injectables are created the same. Some target different areas of the face, and, more importantly, produce different effects.

Collagen stimulators like Sculptra® Aesthetic are used to diminish facial wrinkles by helping to restore the deep, underlying structure of the skin. Results appear gradually over the treatment regime and can be maintained with once a year treatment session.

As a poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) collagen stimulator, Sculptra® Aesthetic is different. It works with your body within the deep dermis, rather than topically, to help revitalize collagen production and help restore your skin’s inner structure and volume. As the Sculptra® Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production. Rebuilt collagen strands begin gradually helping to restore facial volume and the look of fullness to wrinkles and folds. As the Sculptra® Aesthetic PLLA microparticles are absorbed, they help stimulate collagen production.

  • Is Sculptra right for me?

If you are concerned with facial volume loss, collagen loss, and deep and shallow wrinkles; Sculptra may be appropirate for you.

Schedule a cosmetic consultation with our board certified dermatology providers to see if Sculptra is right for you.

  • Is Sculptra® Aesthetic FDA approved?

Yes, Sculptra is FDA approved.  In 2009 Sculptra® got its full FDA approval for cosmetic use in the United States. It received additional FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2021.  It has been used extensively in Europe and is approved in Canada, Europe, and over 20 other countries.

  • Does Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment hurt?

There is little discomfort with the injections because Sculptra® is mixed with lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. Most offices, including ours, also apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment.

  • How long does the treatment take?

At Integrated Dermatology, our board-certified dermatologists will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial assessment before administering Sculptra injection.  The treatment involves numbing for 30 minutes and the actual injection process takes about 15-20 minutes.

  • What will I look like right after the treatment?

Directly after the treatment, there is almost undetectable fullness (from the water in the product) for about two days after a treatment. A little bruising is normal, but it’s usually minimal. You may have mild swelling at the injection sites which could last up to a week.

To avoid bruising don’t take aspirin, ibuprofen or Aleve (naproxyn) or any other drug which increases bleeding for 1 week prior to your treatment unless required by your doctor.

  • How long is the recovery time after treatment?

Your physician will tell you what to expect following treatment with Sculptra® Aesthetic. Within the first 24 hours, you should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites. If there is swelling, you may need to place an ice pack over the swollen area. You may apply powder makeup after your treatment as directed by your provider.

  • Are the results immediate?

No, results are gradual because it takes time for your skin to generate collagen.  You will see results after your second session and the maximum results will be evident about 8 weeks after your last session.

  • Will I need a follow up?

Sculptra® lasts approximately 1-2 years once the series of treatments is completed. Generally, it is recommended to receive one treatment session once a year to maintain your youthful results.

  • Do I need a cosmetic consultation to receive Sculptra® Aesthetic?

  • Can I receive Sculptra® Aesthetic when I am pregnant or nursing?

It is not recommended to receive Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment if you are pregnant or nursing.

  • What are possible side effects?

The most common side effects include tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching. These side effects resolve naturally within 1 to 14 days after the treatment.

A few days after treatment, you may look as you did before the treatment. This is normal and temporary. Sculptra® Aesthetic works to gradually replace lost collagen. Visible results appear within the first few treatment sessions.

Rarely, small visible bumps may develop which can take months or even a year or two to go away. These are usually related to the massage not being done correctly.

If you’ve previously had facial herpes simplex at the injection site, the injection might provoke an outbreak. Talk to your doctor about this before the treatment

  • What are the pre-treatment instructions?

Avoid alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may thin the blood, increasing the risk of bruising).

It is more important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

  • How Is PRP Microneedling Different from Dermal Needling Rollers?

Automated micro-needling devices move in a vertical direction for better precision when treating the skin. Unlike Automated Micro-needling, the roller does not create a precise vertical action. The lack of precision can contribute to greater discomfort and inconsistent effects to the skin.

In addition, here at Integrated Dermatology, microneedling is ONLY administered with platlet-rich-plasma (PRP).  PRP contains millions of growth factors which are signaling molecules that help with collagen production.  PRP microneedling is an effective medical treatment to help stimulate your natural collagen.

  • How Is PRP Microneedling Different from Lasers?

Lasers involve precise treatment with a narrow beam of light and may involve heat and intense resurfacing. In PRP microneedling due to the nature of the procedure and the use of PRP, there is less downtime! Most microneedling patients are red for 24 hours or less. That advantage means you can get the procedure performed on a Friday and be back to normal for work on Monday.

  • What are the indications for PRP microneedling?

    • Skin Revitalization
    • Improvement of skin texture and reduce skin dullness
    • Reduction in The Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles
    • Reduction in the Appearance of Acne Scaring
  • What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated?

PRP Microneedling can be used on all parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolleté, arms, hands, legs, abdomen, and back.

  • What Does PRP Microneedling Feel Like?

The feeling associated with the PRP microneedling is similar to light sandpaper being moved across the skin. While some areas are more sensitive than others, the speed of the reciprocating tip reduces discomfort while the applied PRP also makes the treatment more tolerable.

  • How Long Does the Procedure Take?

The procedure takes 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.

  • What Is the Downtime?

Immediately after the treatment you will notice a bright redness to the skin. The total healing time depends on the setting used and the number of overlapping passes your provider performs. On average, patients are red up to 2 to 4 days. Many patients heal completely in as little as 24 hours.

  • When Will I See the Results?

Patients notice an immediate “glow” to their skin. Visible changes to the skin develop over the course of several days and weeks. Results can continue to improve up to 6 months.

  • How Many Treatments Will I Need?

Some patients only require a single treatment once per year to achieve optimal results. However, it is recommended for most patients to receive a series of 3 treatments, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. For patients with deep wrinkles, advanced photo-aging, stretch marks, or acne scars, it is recommended to receive 6  sessions at 6 week intervals. Maintenance treatment every 6months is recommended to maintain results.

  • How much does PRP microneedling cost?

A single, platelet-rich plasma microneedling session starts out at $875 and we provide packages as a series of treatments typically produce best results.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

  • How does laser hair removal work?

Laser energy is delivered through a small handpiece operated by your physician or physician assistant.

The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the skin and converted to heat. The heat is then absorbed by the cells being targeted, while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. Destroyed hairs are then either dissolved within the skin or rejected by the body within two to three weeks.

Laser hair removal is a quick, easy and relatively painless way to reduce hair in unwanted areas. In fact, many patients have their treatments done during lunch without any downtime.

Patients have found their skin may be slightly red immediately following the procedure. This typically lasts from a few minutes to several hours after the procedure.

  • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my Laser Hair Removal?

It is important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and what is takes to develop healthy skin. We value your trust in us and will work together with you to meet your aesthetic goal.

  • How do I prepare for treatment?

Avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus (cold sores), prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed.

Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing makeup, creams, oils or self-tanning products before laser treatment.

Avoid skin care products with irritants such as Glycolic Acid or Retin-A in the procedure area for about a week before treatment.

Avoid the sun 4-6 weeks before and after treatment. Patients who are actively tan or sunburned will need to re-schedule their treatment session. Additionally, you cannot be treated if you have a spray or artificial tan.

Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before treatment.

  • What should I Expect During my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Laser Hair Removal treatments are quick and easy. After the skin is cleansed and eye protection is applied, a small hand-piece will be used to deliver each laser light pulse. A light spray of coolant onto the skin will be felt just before each laser pulse.

A treatment can take a few minutes to an hour depending on the treatment area and condition being treated.

  • Can I resume my normal activities After my Laser Hair Removal Treatment?

Once the laser hair removal procedure is complete you are free to return to your normal activities immediately.

There is temporary redness and swelling that occurs immediately after treatment. This reaction typically disappears within a few hours.

Other potential side effects include hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area.

Avoid sun exposure for the next four weeks post treatment as this can increase risk of hyperpigmentation, we recommend the use of a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Written post treatment guidelines will be provided after your treatment.

  • Does Laser Hair Removal hurt?

Some patients may feel slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like a snapping of a rubber band on the skin.

This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by the patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™). For some patients a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment.

  • Will I have sensitivity to light following my Laser Hair Removal treatment?

Yes. Sun exposure after treatment can increase risk of hyperpigmentation, so we recommend sun avoidance and use of broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher.

  • Are these treatments covered by insurance?

Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures.

  • What skin types can be treated with the GentleMax Pro®?

All skin types, light and dark, can be treated using GentleMax Pro® Laser Hair Removal treatment.

  • Are the results of laser hair removal permanent?

After a series of six treatments, most Integrated Dermatology Laser Hair removal patients will notice between 60% and 80% permanent reduction. Those hairs that are not permanently reduced will be made smaller, finer and not as dark.

Most patients will experience hairlessness for many months in each area following a laser hair removal series. When the hair that did not get killed gets regrowth, a maintenance treatment is required for the small percentage of hairs that have been resistant to the multi-wavelength series of laser hair removal treatments.

*There’s no guarantee of specific results and the results can vary.

  • How long is a Laser Hair Removal treatment?

It depends on the area of the body being treated; smaller areas treated may take 15 to 20 minutes, whereas larger areas treated may take a little longer.

  • How many treatment sessions will I need?

Multiple treatments are required. The reduction of hair can be seen after one treatment but because hair grows in cycles, not all hair is affected in one treatment. Everyone usually requires at least 6 treatments, about 4-6 weeks apart.

  • How much is Laser Hair Removal?

Cost depends on the area being treated which can be discussed at your consultation. We provide packages to help patients save while receiving the best treatment for their skin.

  • How does KYBELLA® work?

KYBELLA® is a synthetic of deoxycholic acid, a naturally-occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

When injected into subcutaneous fat, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. This results in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved chin profile. After your goal is achieved, retreatment with KYBELLA® is not expected.

  • What is submental fullness?

Submental fullness is a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as “double chin.” It can be something you’ve had your whole life due to genetics, or start to appear as you get older or if you gain weight

  • How is KYBELLA® administered?

Treatment at Integrated Dermatology can only be administered by a KYBELLA®-trained physician and physician assistant. At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.

  • How many KYBELLA® treatment sessions will I need?

Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your doctor will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal treatment goals.  Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 6 weeks apart, and you may need 3-4 sessions.

  • Will I need time to recover?

After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, hardness or numbness under your chin. Be sure to inform your healthcare professional if you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness, or difficulty swallowing.

  • What are the results of KYBELLA®?

79% of KYBELLA® treated patients reported satisfaction with their appearance in association with their face and chin.

Patients also reported improvement in the visual and emotional impact of submental fat when asked how happy, bothered, self-conscious, embarrassed, old, and overweight they felt following treatment in relation to the amount of their submental fat.

  • What are the possible side effects of KYBELLA®?

In clinical studies, nerve injury in the jaw resolved on its own in a median of 44 days (range of 1 to 298 days), and trouble swallowing resolved on its own in a median of 3 days (range of 1 to 81 days).

    CHEMICAL PEEL

    • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my chemical peel?

Integrated Dermatology offers both ViPeel and SkinMedica chemical peels for reducing the appearance of acne scars, wrinkles, and discoloration. These peels are pain-free, outpatient procedures that result in clearer, more even skin. We have been providing chemical peels to our patients through the years and continue to see successful results.

Our physicians and providers will help you decide which chemical peel is best for your skin and desired results. You do not need a cosmetic consultation for our chemical peels; however, we would love the opportunity to use our experience and knowledge to guide you to the best choice.

    • Vi Peel

Our most popular peel, we recommend ViPeels for patients that need an extra boost to rid fine lines and wrinkles, along with exceptional sun damage. ViPeels are specifically formulated to rejuvenate aging skin and help prevent future damage.

      • Soften fine lines and wrinkles
      • Restore a more even skin tone
      • Smooths away rough skin texture
    • SkinMedica Peels

We recommend our SkinMedica peels to those who are newer to chemical peels. Choose one of the Illuminize, Vitalize, or Rejuvenize Peels to achieve brighter and more radiant skin.

      • The Illuminize peel is considered our “red-carpet” peel, as very little peeling is involved and the salicylic acid helps to control greasiness.
      • The Vitalize peel is our highly-recommended peel, as it has the glycolic acids along with a low dose of retinol.
      • The Rejuvenize peel is the highest strength of the SkinMedica peels, with all that you find in the Vitalize peel and a higher dose of retinol.

Each peel has been developed and clinically tested to address concerns for all skin types, including fine lines, age spots, and acne.

    • Additional tips

      • During the time before and after you start peeling, do not excessively soak treated areas. This will cause the skin to prematurely peel, causing redness and irritation.

      • Avoid sunlight as much as possible during the peel phase. For your protection, make sure to use a sunscreen
      • Do NOT have any facial treatments for at least one week after you have completely finished peeling

      • Do NOT use anything on your face that may sting or burn. If you do, wash off immediately.

      • If will take your skin approximately four days at the completion of your peeling to go back to its normal pH balance. This is when your skin will start to look its best. At this time, you may resume the regular use of products, unless instructed by your doctor.
    • How much do the chemical peels cost?

The price of peels increases based on the strength of the peel. We do provide packages for our patients to both save money and attain the best results. Chemical peels range from $100-425 per peel.

    COOLSCULPTING

    • What is CoolSculpting™?

CoolSculpting™ is a patented, non-invasive, clinically proven procedure to selectively reduce fat layers in problem areas using a patented cooling technology. It is a safe procedure cleared by the FDA that gently cools unwanted fat cells in the body to induce a natural, controlled elimination of fat cells. This reduces bulges in treated areas of the body without harming surrounding tissue.

    • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my CoolSculpting™ treatment?

Here at Integrated Dermatology, only certified CoolSculpting™ specialists perform the CoolSculpting™ treatment. We are an experienced CoolSculpting™ Certified Practice with Crystal status.  We have been treating patients with CoolSculpting™ since 2012.

It is important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.  Here at Integrated Dermatology, we value your trust in us and will work together with you to meet your aesthetic goal.

    • How does CoolSculpting™ Work?

During the CoolSculpting™ procedure, a non-invasive applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling to the treatment area to specifically target underlying fat, leaving surface skin tissue unaffected. When fat cells are exposed to cold, a process of natural removal is triggered, which gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. The result is a visible reduction in fat bulges.

    • Am I a good candidate for CoolSculpting™?

The CoolSculpting fat-reduction procedure is specially designed for those who have unwanted fat in targeted areas. Unlike weight-loss surgery (e.g., gastric bypass), the CoolSculpting procedure is not a weight-loss solution for people who are obese. Good candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure have noticeable bulges in certain areas they’d like to get rid of. Many people want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.

Request a one-on-one consultation with our Coolsculpting provider who will determine if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

    • How long does the treatment take? Will I need multiple treatments?

Your CoolSculpting certified specialist will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. The length of your CoolSculpting treatment will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. While each CoolSculpting treatment generally lasts about 1 hour, some patients have more than one treatment during the same office visit.

At Integrated Dermatology, we even have multiple CoolSculpting systems and applicators, so it’s possible for you to have multiple areas treated at once. You and your provider may also schedule additional treatments or office visits in order to meet your goals.

Many people read, check email, or even take a nap during their treatments.

    • How much does it cost?

The price for CoolSculpting procedures varies depending on your areas of concern, the number of treatments needed, and your ultimate goals. Our providers have explained that the overall cost is comparable to the cost of liposuction procedures. Most patients opt to receive treatments in multiple body areas in order to achieve their goals.

We create a customized treatment plan, in person, with you and your CoolSculpting provider that’s tailored to your body, your goals, and your budget. Our practice offers flexible payment plans to help patients achieve their goals.

Each treatment starts at $1500 and varies depending on areas that will be treated.

    • Which areas of my body can CoolSculpting™ treat?

In the U.S., the CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental area (double chin), inner and outer thighs, arms, abdomen and flank, along with bra fat, back fat, and underneath the buttocks.

    • Where does the fat go? Are the results permanent?

Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), they die and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good.

    • What does it feel like? Does it hurt?

As the cooling begins during the first few minutes, you typically feel intense cold. This soon dissipates. With some applicators, you’ll feel some pulling as suction is applied. The area generally goes numb within 5 to 10 minutes during treatment. Many people read, watch videos, work on their laptop, or even take a nap during their CoolSculpting treatment.

After the treatment, you may feel some tingling as the area is massaged for 2 or 3 minutes. Patients are usually able to return to normal activities following their appointment.

    • Is CoolSculpting™ safe?

The CoolSculpting procedure is FDA-cleared for the treatment of visible fat bulges in the submental area, thigh, abdomen, and flank. As the #1 non-invasive fat reduction procedure and with millions of CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide, it is proven to be a safe and effective treatment.

    • Are there any side effects?

During the procedure you may experience sensations of pulling, tugging, mild pinching, intense cold, tingling, stinging, aching, and cramping at the treatment site. These sensations subside as the area becomes numb. Following the procedure, typical side effects include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity. Sensation of fullness in the back of the throat after submental area treatment. These effects are temporary and generally resolve within days or weeks. Though rare, some additional side effects may occur. As with any medical procedure, ask your physician if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

    • Can I return to normal activities after the treatment?

Yes, you can. The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Patients often return to work on the same day after a CoolSculpting treatment is completed.

    • When will I see results?

You may start to see changes as quickly as 3 weeks after your treatment, and will experience the most dramatic results after 2 months. Your body will still continue to flush out fat cells for up to 4 to 6 months after treatment.

    • What happens if I gain weight after the procedure?

Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, feel even more motivated to stay close to their ideal weight. However, if you do gain weight, you may gain it evenly all over your body, not just in the treated areas.

      ACNE

      • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology to treat my acne and acne scars?

Our board certified dermatologists and providers are experts in the field of dermatology and can properly diagnose and treat your acne.  Our integrated approach of personalizing the treatment plan to every patient and providing a comprehensive plan to clear your acne is paramount to getting the results you desire.  We value each conversation and concern and believe that this is a “team” approach to collectively reach the same goal of having clearer healthier skin.  We understand that your skin can affect the quality of your life and we strive to provide the highest level of care.

      • What are the signs of acne?

Blackheads, whiteheads, pustules and painful cysts that appear on the face, back, and chest characterize acne.

      • Why treat acne?

Some people will just leave acne untreated, however, as dermatologists we recommend treating this medical condition.  Without treatment, acne can cause dark spots (hyperpigmentation) and permanent scars.  Acne has been correlated with low self-esteem and depression.  It can affect the quality of your life.  There are many effective treatments available for acne.  Our board certified dermatologists and providers can work with you to find a comprehensive treatment plan that will control your acne.

      • What are the causes of acne?

In the skin, we all have oil glands under the skin, known as sebaceous glands, produce an oily substance called sebum. The sebum moves from the bottom to the top of each hair follicle and then spills out onto the surface of the skin, taking with it sloughed-off skin cells.

With acne, the structure through which the sebum flows gets plugged up. This blockage traps sebum and sloughed-off cells below the skin, preventing them from being released onto the skin’s surface. The clogged pores form “whiteheads” and “blackhead”.

We also have bacteria that live on our skin, which also can grow to induce inflammation of the pores that cause cysts and nodules.

      • How does a dermatologist diagnose acne?

A dermatologist is a skin disease specialist who will examine your skin to confirm the diagnosis of acne as other skin disorders can mimic acne.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers at Integrated Dermatology will be able to diagnose your acne and discuss with you which types of treatment can be helpful.

      • What are the treatments for acne?

There are many effective acne treatments.  It is categorized by topical treatment (which is applied to the skin), systemic treatments (which works throughout the body), and procedures.

Topical treatments consist of medication that helps reduce the oil, helps kill/reduce the bacteria in the pores, and unplug the blocked-up material in the pores.  Some of the common topical acne medication consists of tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, and antibiotics.  In addition, incorporating a sound skin care regimen is also essential to the treatment of acne.

Systemic treatments consist of medication that works throughout the body.  This type of oral medication may be helpful for inflammatory types of acne.  Some common oral medications are antibiotics, spironolactone, oral contraceptives, and isotretinoin (Accutane).

Procedures that can be helpful to treat acne consist of extractions, injections, chemical peels, and laser & light treatments.  Extractions remove the plugged up pore and empty out an acne blackhead.  Injections  can be helpful to treat large acne cysts to ease the pain and reduce the chance of leaving a scar.  Chemical peels are medical grade peels performed in the office to treat acne as well as hyperpigmentation.  Laser and light therapies can reduce the oil and helps reduce the bacteria that cause the acne.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers at Integrated Dermatology will be able to determine which types of treatment will be helpful to you.

      • How do you treat acne scars and hyperpigmentation?

There are many safe and effective treatments available for acne scars.  Treatments can treat hyperpigmentation as well as true acne scars that cause “depression” in the skin.  Treatments include procedures such as PRP microneedling, Fraxel, chemical peels amongst other treatments. In addition, incorporating an effective skin care regimen is also essential to the treatment of acne scars and hyperpigmentation.

It is also imperative to work with a dermatologist to clear your acne.  Since new acne breakouts can lead to new acne scars and hyperpigmentation, it is imperative to treat the current breakouts.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers at Integrated Dermatology perform these treatments in our medical office.

All skin types, light and dark, can be treated using Isolaz acne treatment.

        • Is there downtime associated with the Isolaz acne treatment?

Isolaz acne treatments are relaxing and do not include side effects such as crusting or other common post-treatment discomforts. There may be mild redness that lasts less than an hour. You can go right back to your normal activities immediately post-treatment.

        • Will I respond to Isolaz if I have not responded to Accutane® (Isotretinoin)?

While everyone is different, many patients who have not responded to other acne treatments have responded to Isolaz treatments.

        • What types of acne does the Isolaz treat?

Isolaz is the only system indicated for the treatment of pustular and comedonal acne, as well as mild to moderate acne and acne vulgaris.

        • Will I still need to use topical creams or other medication?

Depending on your own situation, you may be instructed to continue to use other acne treatments while undergoing Isolaz treatments.

        • Does the Isolaz work 100% of the time?

While everyone's skin is different, many patients who have not responded to other acne treatments, such as Isotretinoin (Accutane®), antibiotics, topical creams, or even lasers have responded to Isolaz treatments. In fact, studies have shown that patients who had Isolaz treatments achieved 90% acne clearance, leading to clearer skin.

        • What if I only get a breakout every once in a while–could I still have an Isolaz treatment?

Of course! Because the Isolaz is helpful for deep pore cleansing, the treatment will leave you with healthy, radiant looking skin.

        • How much is Isolaz?

Many patients see best results after 6-10 treatments, however it does vary from patient-to-patient. We provide packages to help patients save while receiving the best treatment for their skin. A single session is $250. A Package of 6 treatments is $1,250.

        • Will Isolaz also reduce the redness associated with my acne breakouts?

Many patients see the additional benefit of reduced redness after an Isolaz acne light treatment.

          • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my Vbeam® Perfecta (PDL) treatment?

At Integrated Dermatology, our physicians and physician assistants perform Vbeam® Perfecta (PDL) treatments. Our cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the provider that is administering your treatment.

It is more important to find an experienced provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you. Cost depends on the condition and size of the area being treated. To learn more, schedule a consultation to discuss your personal needs.

          • What can I expect during a Vbeam® Perfecta treatment?

During the procedure patients often report a warming or tingling sensation, although anesthetics are usually not required. Skin receives additional protection through a Dynamic Cooling Device™, which delivers a cooling burst of cryogen before the laser pulse is delivered. This will increase comfort during treatment and minimizes side effects such as redness.

          • What is the Downtime?

Some patients experience redness immediately after the treatment, but it usually goes away in a few hours. Occasionally a laser bruise called purpura may occur; this usually disappears in three to five days.

Following any treatment, you should follow your doctor’s instructions, avoid any harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen.

          • When will I See Results?

After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sun spots will fade. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.

            INTENSE PULSED LIGHT

            • How Does IPL work?

The treatment uses bursts of high intensity light to target the lower layers of skin and remove underlying causes of redness and discoloration. It is an outpatient procedure that may require multiple sessions for maximum results.

Using the advanced IPL system, your provider gently delivers precise amounts of light energy through your skin’s surface. Treatments are spaced at three week intervals. The energy is delivered at specific setting for each treatment to maximize your results.

The light energy stimulates the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of aging skin. Fine line and wrinkles are decreased. The redness associated with rosacea can be dramatically reduced. Treatments start at $600 per session.

WHO ARE THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR IPL?

              • Red, flushed faces
              • Sun-damaged skin
              • Hyperpigmentation
              • Enlarged pores
            • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology for my IPL treatment?

At Integrated Dermatology, our physicians perform the IPL treatment. Our cost not only includes the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the physician who is administering your treatment. A single, full face session starts out at $600 and we provide discounts for patients that have subsequent treatments.

IPL is a technique-sensitive treatment — You need someone who is trained and has experience treating patients with intense pulsed light. It is more important to find an experienced doctor who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.

            • What Does It Feel Like?

Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the hand piece. Some patients opt to have a topical anesthesia. After treatment, the pain is minimal to nonexistent.

            • How Long Does the Procedure Take?

Depending on the area treated, there will be a series of five to eight treatment. Treatments usually take from 15-30 minutes and are administered in the office.

            • What is the Downtime?

Post-operative discomfort is almost nonexistent. After treatment with most light systems, the treated skin may appear a little flushed and capillaries may seem to be more visible. The flushed look soon fades away, and the capillaries appear to vanish, leaving the skin looking younger.

Following any treatment, you should follow your doctor’s instructions, avoid any harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen.

            • When will I See Results?

After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sun spots will fade. Pore sizes will shrink. Fine lines and wrinkles will gradually decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with every treatment.

              ACCUTANE

              • What is Isotretinoin (Accutane)?

Isotretinoin (Accutane) is an oral medication used to treat acne. It is indicated for treatment for severe acne, nodular-cystic acne, and/or acne that has not sufficiently responded to other treatments. Although there is no official cure for acne, Accutane treatment is the closest option.

              • What is the iPledge program?

The iPledge program aims to inform patients about the teratogenic effects of isotretinoin (Accutane). All patients must be enrolled in the iPledge program prior to starting treatment. Females must be on two forms of birth control or choose abstinence one month before the start date and stay on the chosen method throughout the duration of treatment.

              • When can I start Isotretinoin (Accutane)?

Male patients will be registered in the iPledge program once all consent forms and bloodwork results have been received and processed.

Female patients will be registered in the iPledge program once all consent forms and bloodwork results have been received and processed. However, female patients must wait 31 days from the registration date before starting treatment. The iPledge program requires 2 negative pregnancy tests performed one month apart before allowing female patients access to the medication. After the initial consultation, female patients must return to the office 31 days after the registration date to leave a urine sample and see the provider to receive the prescription. The patient has 7 days starting on the date of the visit to pick up the medication.

              • How long will I have to be on it?

The exact length of treatment depends on the patient. The average length of treatment varies from 9-12 months.

              • What are some of the side effects of Isotretinoin?

Majority of patients will experience dryness to some degree, but we provide various recommendations to help manage it. The next most common side effect is muscle soreness/joint aches for our active patients, but most patients will control it with over-the-counter analgesics.  While mood changes are rare, if you have a diagnosis of any mood disorders (depression, anxiety, etc), you must let us know.  In some cases, we will speak to your primary care physician or other providers involved in your care to consult with them regarding starting Accutane.

              • I am still on Isotretinoin (Accutane) and transferring to your office, what paperwork do you need?

First, please have your complete medical records transferred to our office prior to your visit, or bring a copy to your first visit. We need an accurate record of your current dose to date, bloodwork results, and side effects.

Next, you will need to log into your iPledge account to transfer care to the provider you’re seeing at our office prior to your visit.

              • I missed my window and I'm a male, what do I do?

If you’re a male patient and missed your 7-day window, please call our office. We will confirm you again in our system and you will be able to pick up your prescription without a waiting period.

              • I missed my window and I'm a female, what do I do?

If you missed the window during your first month of treatment, you will need to wait another 19 days before the iPledge system will allow us to enter another negative pregnancy test. After the 19-day waiting period, you will need to return to the office to leave a urine sample so we can confirm your pregnancy test is negative.

If you miss your 7-day window during month 2 or later, you will need to return to the office to leave a urine sample. There is no waiting period, but you will need to answer your comprehension questions again on iPledge.

              • Do I have to pay for my urine test if I don't see a provider?

                No.

              • Where can I find my iPledge number?

Your iPledge number will be available on the iPledge progam website under your account.  Alternatively, you can call our office to obtain your iPledge number.

              • Do I have to fast for bloodwork?

It is recommended that you fast for your bloodwork.

              • Do I have to come in every month and see a provider?

Yes. The iPledge program requires monthly visits for both male and female patients.

              • How soon after my appointment will I be confirmed in the iPledge system?

Our medical assistants try their best to confirm patients immediately after the appointment. However, most morning patients will be confirmed before 12 PM and afternoon patients will be confirmed by 4:30 PM. If there are extenuating circumstances that require confirmation immediately after your appointment, please let one of our medical assistants know at the beginning of your appointment and they will make every effort to accommodate your request.

              • What products do you suggest to use in conjunction with Isotretinoin (Accutane)?

Unless otherwise instructed, patients should not be using any topical acne medications while undergoing isotretinoin (Accutane) treatment. We strongly suggest using gentle, hydrating products to help manage the most common side effect of dry skin.

              • I've been on Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past, I think I may want to start the treatment again. What is the next step? Do I have a new iPledge number?

If you and your provider agree that another course of isotretinoin (Accutane) is appropriate for you, we will need you to fill out another set of consent forms to re-register you in the iPledge system. After we receive your bloodwork results and they are normal, we will re-register you in the iPledge system. Male patients don’t have a waiting period. Female patients of childbearing potential must wait one month after the date of registration to follow up for another negative pregnancy test.

              BASAL CELL CARCINOMA

              • What does a Basal Cell Carcinoma look like?

BASAL CELL CARCINOMAS CAN PRESENT IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WAYS:

                • Raised pink bump with a pearly edge and small, visible blood vessels
                • Brown/black dome-shaped bumps that look like moles with a pearly edge
                • A sore that continuously heals and re-opens
                • Flat red scaly scar with a waxy appearance and blurred edges
              • What are the causes of Basal Cell Carcinoma and who gets it?

Risk factors for basal cell carcinoma include having fair skin, sun exposure, age (most skin cancers occur after age 50), exposure to ultraviolet radiation (as in tanning beds), and therapeutic radiation given to treat an unrelated health issue.

If you have had one Basal Cell Carcinoma, your risk of developing a second one increases by about 50%.  You also have an increased risk if you have close blood relative that had BCC.  If you are on an immunosuppressant medication, your risk of developing a BCC increases.

              • When should I see a dermatologist?

YOU SHOULD SEE A DERMATOLOGIST FOR EVALUATION IF YOU HAVE A BUMP THAT:

                • Bleeds easily
                • Won’t heal, or heals and returns
                • Oozes or crusts over
                • Has a sunken center
              • How is a basal cell carcinoma diagnosed?

Diagnosing basal cell carcinoma requires a simple skin biopsy that can be performed in the office by a dermatologist during your visit.  During the skin biopsy, the suspicious lesion is removed and the sample will be sent to a laboratory to be analyzed under a microscope.

              • What are treatments for basal cell carcinoma?

SOME OF THE TREATMENTS FOR BCC INCLUDE

                • Excision — This is a surgical treatment where the tumor is removed and cut out with some normal-looking skin around the tumor. Your dermatologist will stitch up the area after the excision. This is an outpatient procedure and a common way to treat BCC. The removed skin is also sent out to the laboratory to ensure that the skin is free of cancer.
                • Curettage and Desiccation — This in-office treatment involves using a small metal instrument (called a curette) to scrape out the tumor along with using electrocautery into the tissue to kill off any remaining cancer cells.
                • Mohs Micrographic Surgery  — This specialized surgical treatment is indicated for large tumors and for BCC in certain anatomic locations. Mohs Surgery combines removal of cancerous tissue with microscopic review while the surgery takes place. By mapping the diseased tissue layer by layer, less healthy skin is damaged when removing the tumor. It has the highest cure rate for BCC. Your dermatologist will let you know if Mohs surgery is recommended and right for you.
                • Prescription Medicated Creams — These creams can be applied at home. They stimulate the body's natural immune system over the course of weeks. The most common medications are imiquimod or 5-fluorouracil.
                • Cryosurgery — Some basal cell carcinomas respond to cryosurgery, where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze off the tumor.
                • Radiation Therapy — Radiation therapy is used for difficult-to-treat tumors, either because of their location, severity, or persistence.  If radiation therapy is an option, your dermatologist will refer you to a radiation oncologist.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers here at Integrated Dermatology will discuss with you your treatment options and will recommend a treatment that is right for you.

              • What is the outcome if receive treatment for a basal cell carcinoma?

Nearly every basal cell cancer can be cured, especially when the cancer is found early and treated.

              • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology to diagnose and treat my skin cancer?

USE THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF DERMATOLOGY'S ABCDES AS A GUIDE FOR ASSESSING WHETHER OR NOT A MOLE MAY BE BECOMING CANCEROUS:

                • Asymmetry: Half the mole does not match the other half in size, shape or color.
                • Border: The edges of moles are irregular, scalloped, or poorly defined.
                • Color: The mole is not the same color throughout.
                • Diameter: The mole is usually greater than 6 millimeters when diagnosed, but may also be smaller.
                • Evolving: A mole or skin lesion that is different from the rest, or changes in size, shape, or color.
              • What are the causes of Melanoma and who gets it?

Anyone can get melanoma.  Most individuals are fair-skinned but people who have darker skin types also get melanoma.  Your risk of getting melanoma increases with UV-radiation exposure (tanning beds, sun).

RESEARCH SHOWS THAT YOUR RISK INCREASES WITH:

                • Using indoor tanning beds before age 35 increase your risk of melanoma by 59%
                • Had 5 or more blistering sunburns between ages 15-20, your risk increases by 80%
                • Live closer to the equator
                • Live in a sunny area of the US like Florida, Arizona
                • Not using sun-protection
                • If you have fair skin, red/blond hair, blue/green eyes
                • Having 50+ more moles, large moles, history of atypical (dysplasia) moles
                • Having a personal history of melanoma or other types of skin cancer
                • Having a disease that weakens your immune system
                • Having a family history of melanoma
              • When should I see a dermatologist?

YOU SHOULD SEE A DERMATOLOGIST FOR EVALUATION IF YOU HAVE:

                • Large brown spots with darker speckles located anywhere on the body.
                • Dark lesions on the palms and soles, fingertips toes, mouth, nose or genitalia.
                • Translucent pearly and dome-shaped growth.
                • Existing moles that begin to grow, itch or bleed.
                • Brown or black streaks under the nails.
                • A sore that repeatedly heals and re-opens.
                • Clusters of slow-growing scaly lesions that look like scars.
              • How is a melanoma diagnosed?

Diagnosing a melanoma requires a careful examination of the moles and suspicious spots. Dermatologists may use a device called a dermatoscope during your exam, to get a better closer look at the mole. Dermatoscopes highlight the pigment and structure of the mole.  A skin biopsy that can be performed in the office is required for a suspicious spot.  A skin biopsy is quick, safe, and easy.   During the skin biopsy, the suspicious lesion is removed and the sample will be sent to a laboratory to be analyzed under a microscope.  If the biopsy reports states that a patient has melanoma, the report will also indicate the stage of the melanoma.  The stage indicates the depth of the cancer in the skin.  Depending on the stage of the melanoma, a lymph node biopsy may be recommended to stage the melanoma and to see whether the melanoma has spread.

              • What are treatments for melanoma?

The recommended treatment will depend on the depth of the skin cancer into the skin and whether it has spread to other parts of the body

SOME OF THE TREATMENTS FOR MELANOMA INCLUDE:

                • Excision — This is a surgical treatment where the tumor is removed and cut out with some normal-looking skin around the tumor. When the cancer has not spread, it is often possible for a dermatologic surgeon to remove the melanoma in the office as an outpatient procedure. Your dermatologist will stitch up the area after the excision. The removed skin is also sent out to the laboratory to ensure that the normal skin is free of the melanoma.

When caught early, removing the melanoma with excision may be all that a patient needs.  If the melanoma grows into just the outer layer of the skin, it is considered the earliest stage and called melanoma in situ (stage 0).  The cure rate with surgical excision for a melanoma in situ is 100%.

When the melanoma grows deeper into the skin a multidisciplinary team consisting of a dermatologist, medical oncologist, and a surgeon may be involved to discuss the appropriate treatment plans.  With advanced melanoma, treatments can get more complex involving:

                • Immunotherapy – treatment that helps the immune system fight the cancer
                • Lymphadenectomy – surgery to remove the affected lymph nodes
                • Chemotherapy – medicine that kills the cancer cells
                • Radiation therapy – X-rays that can kill the cancer cells
                • Clinical Trials – being part of a medical research that studies a medicine/other treatments for melanoma.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers here at Integrated Dermatology will discuss with you your treatment options based on the depth and the stage of the melanoma.

              • What is the outcome if I receive treatment for a melanoma?

With the earliest stage when the melanoma is only in the top outer layer of the skin, the cure rate is 100% with treatment.  If the melanoma has grown deeper into the skin or metastasized to other parts of the body, it can lead to death.  It is imperative that you seek a dermatologists to diagnose melanoma at its earliest stage.

              • Why should I choose Integrated Dermatology to diagnose and treat my skin cancer?

              • What does a Squamous Cell Carcinoma look like?

SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMAS CAN PRESENT IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WAYS:

                • A bump or lump on the skin that can feel rough.
                • A dome-shaped or crusty bump that can bleed.
                • A sore that continuously heals and re-opens
                • Flat red scaly patch that grows slowly.
              • What are the causes of Squamous Cell Carcinoma and who gets it?

Risk factors for squamous carcinoma include having fair skin, sun exposure, and exposure to ultraviolet radiation (as in tanning beds).  In addition, exposure to cancer-causing chemicals (such as Arsenic, tar, insecticides) and history of tobacco use can increase your risk.  If you have been diagnosed with a precancerous skin lesion called an Actinic Keratosis, you are more likely to develop a SCC.

              • When should I see a dermatologist?

YOU SHOULD SEE A DERMATOLOGIST FOR EVALUATION IF YOU HAVE A BUMP OR A SCALY RED PATCH THAT:

                • Bleeds easily.
                • Won’t heal, or heals and returns
                • Oozes or crusts over
                • Lump that feels rough
              • How is a squamous cell carcinoma diagnosed?

Diagnosing squamous cell carcinoma requires a simple skin biopsy that can be performed in the office by a dermatologist during your visit.  During the skin biopsy, the suspicious lesion is removed and the sample will be sent to a laboratory to be analyzed under a microscope.

              • What are treatments for squamous cell carcinoma?

SOME OF THE TREATMENTS FOR SCC INCLUDE

                • Excision — This is a surgical treatment where the tumor is removed and cut out with some normal-looking skin around the tumor. Your dermatologist will stitch up the area after the excision. This is an outpatient procedure and a common way to treat SCC. The removed skin is also sent out to the laboratory to ensure that the skin is free of cancer.
                • Mohs Micrographic Surgery — This specialized surgical treatment is indicated for large tumors and for SCC in certain anatomic locations. Mohs Surgery combines removal of cancerous tissue with microscopic review while the surgery takes place. By mapping the diseased tissue layer by layer, less healthy skin is damaged when removing the tumor. It has the highest cure rate for SCC. Your dermatologist will let you know if Mohs surgery is recommended.
                • Prescription Medicated Creams — These creams can be applied at home. They stimulate the body's natural immune system over the course of weeks. The most common medications are imiquimod or 5-fluorouracil.
                • Cryosurgery — Some squamous cell carcinomas respond to cryosurgery, where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze off the tumor.
                • Radiation Therapy — Radiation therapy is used for difficult-to-treat tumors, either because of their location, severity, or persistence.  If radiation therapy is a treatment option, you will receive a referral to a radiation oncologist.

Our board certified dermatologists and providers here at Integrated Dermatology will discuss with you your treatment options and will recommend a treatment that is right for you.

              • What is the outcome if receive treatment for a squamous cell carcinoma?

With early diagnosis and treatment, most SCC can be cured.  If left untreated, SCC can grow deep and SCC can potentially spread to other parts of the body.
